Sam Outlaw and the Marketing Power of Origin Stories

I'm a huge Sam Outlaw fan, and excited about his new album, Terra Cotta.

Aside from the music, I like his origin story.

Outlaw was a digital advertising salesman in South California.

But on his 30th birthday, Outlaw decided to pursue his real passion, music.

He started to perform at local bars before releasing an EP and attracting an industry following. The rest, as they, say is history.

Outlaw's career offers some important takeaways:

**ONE** - It's never too late to pursue your passions, even if they don't become full-time jobs. It's easy to say, "I'm too old,", "I won't be successful," or "I don't have the time."

But they're excuses that shouldn't be obstacles. If you love doing something, pursue it because life is too short to sit on the sidelines.

**TWO** - Sometimes, opportunities don't present themselves until you make yourself available to what's possible. If you're heads down with a full-time job, people can think that you aren't open to new experiences.

If you want a fresh start or to start over or do something different, you either need to leave your job (not an easy thing!) or show the world that you're open to new experiences.

**THREE** - Back stories have curb appeal. Everyone wants to know your origin story. What inspired you to come up with the idea? Why did you decide to move forward with it?

When you don't have a track record, success, or customers, your origin story is a powerful marketing and sales asset.

Sam Outlaw certainly benefited from it.
