Canadian Blogger Sued

In what could be a first, a Canadian blogger has been sued for defamation for a post done last month. Mark Bourrie was hit with a $600,000 libel lawsuit by Warren Kinsella after Bourrie allegedly insuated Kinsella was involved in a kickback scandal. Kinsella's lawyer, Brian Shiller, said the post accused his client of a criminal offence but Bourrie allegedly delinced rectify it after being asked. Bourie said he plans to file a a statement of defence and a counterclaim against Kinsella for abuse of process. While none of the claims have been proven in court, the lawsuit does put the spotlight on how bloggers operate and the freedom they have to express their opinions. I guess we should be careful about the next time we think of flaming someone.
