What would you say if a new employee asked to work from home one day a week?

I suspect most employers would say “yes” in a heartbeat.

It shows how the work landscape has radically changed.

A few years ago, I was consulting for a B2B SaaS client with innovative AI technology and a plan to raise major venture capital.

When I was asked to become the VP, of Marketing, it seemed a great opportunity. (In hindsight, it was a terrible mistake to leave consulting).

I asked to work from home one day a week because, after all, I had been working from home five days for more than a decade. It was a minor request.

A no-brainer, right? Wrong.

They hummed and hawed but in the end, they reluctantly relented. It was a huge decision to let someone work from home.

The lack of enthusiasm may have been because many of its employees were commuting for more than an hour, which struck me as crazy.

Airbnb‘s recent announcement to let its employees work remotely is the new golden standard.

Anyone who thought WFH was a fad or would lose its momentum is dead wrong.

Looking back at my WFH request, I have to laugh and shake my head at the same time.
