Celebrating the joy and freedom of entrepreneurship
A year ago, I was liberated.
To be accurate, my employer and I parted ways.
It wasn’t a surprise, other than it happened as the pandemic began to rumble.
In many ways, however, it was a significant relief.
The job was stressful and soul-sucking.
As much as I wanted to be a VP, Marketing for a B2B SaaS company, it wasn’t a great experience.
Footloose and fancy-free, I half-heartedly looked for full-time jobs. It was tough out there!
But before long, I decided to jump back into my marketing business.
Last summer was slow business-wise, but the upside was that I played a lot of tennis.
Then, I made my smartest professional move: I rebranded as a fractional CMO for B2B SaaS companies.
It was one of those things that I wish I done earlier. It resonated, and the leads started to flow.
Over the past year, business has been good. I attribute it to:
✎ Connections and brand awareness via LinkedIn. I love LinkedIn!
✎ The demand for marketing leadership, positioning, and strategy.
✎The growing interest in digital marketing; riding the wave!
✎ Conversations with 125+ people. Conversations are gold. Zoom is a great tool.
✎ Launching a podcast. A great to talk to lots of interesting people.
One of the best parts is that I’m crystal clear about what I do (and don’t do) and who I serve.
As important, I have happy customers. In business, that is marketing magic.
2021 is shaping up to be an exciting year.
If you’re thinking about doing your own thing, I’d be happy to offer advice.
