Justin Rose leveraged three other key components for success: patience, persistence, and practice.

For those of you who don’t know Justin Rose, he’s a British golfer.

He broke into the world as a teenager at the British Open, making an incredible shot at the 18th hole that wowed the world.

Everyone thought Rose had the world at his feet; he was going to be the next great golfer.

But you know what happened next? Rose missed 20 cuts in a row.

Think about it: in 20 golf tournaments, he played two rounds but failed to qualify to play on the weekend. That meant he couldn’t make any money.

So for all his promise, Rose failed to take the next step.

Fast-forward 20 years and Rose just became the number one ranked golfer in the world,  an incredible accomplishment.

Rose succeeded by being persistent. He didn’t give up even when he missed when he missed 20 cuts in a row.

He practiced as all great athletes do and he managed to raise his game year after year. He started to make cuts and then started to win tournaments. Suddenly, he was among the best golfers in the world.

A lesson for many marketers is that success takes time. Success requires you to be persistent and patient.

As marketers, we often think success should happen overnight. Our videos should go viral, and our campaigns should immediately bring in leads, prospects, and sales.

We get impatient when that doesn’t happen. We start looking at growth hacking and other techniques to optimize campaigns and websites to make sure that are all results are better and better and better.

The problem is that when we don’t succeed right away, the powers that be look at how we’re performing and they’re disappointed.

They have been set up to expect fantastic, instant results. They expect instant gratification but unfortunately, that isn’t the way that the marketing world works.

Yes, you can create videos that suddenly go viral and you can launch campaigns that attract a lot of leads and sales.

But for most marketers, success happens over time. Success happens because we’re patient.

It means we need to keep creating content. We need to post interesting and engaging content on social media and we have to adopt a different mindset.

We shouldn’t look for instant gratification. We should look for gratification and success in the long term.

The key lesson is we need to start thinking like Justin Rose.

We need to embrace the Justin Rose philosophy when it comes to success.

It’s going to take time. It’s going to take effort but if we apply ourselves, learn and e continue to persevere and practice, one day we will be successful.

Now we may not become the best markers in the world but we will become good marketers who will do a great job.
